How to Eliminate Hyperpigmentation6/17/2022
There are several ways to eliminate hyperpigmentation. It can be caused by acne, exposure to the sun, or a skin-care treatment that went wrong. You can fade the dark spots by using topical products or applying a skincare regimen that contains anti-hyperpigmentation ingredients. A dermatologist can recommend the right treatment based on the type of hyperpigmentation you have. In addition, you can use anti-inflammatory products to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
If you have hyperpigmentation, consider a series of IPL sessions. Three sessions are sufficient to break down the pigmentation. While a single treatment may be insufficient to completely eliminate hyperpigmentation, larger spots fade faster than darker ones. Each session can take between 45 and 60 minutes and feels like a warm rubber band snapping. Once the sessions are complete, the dark spots will look like fine coffee grounds for a few days and then slough off. A home remedy for hyperpigmentation could involve applying a solution on the affected area. Some home remedies include milk, yogurt, gram flour mixed with turmeric, apple cider vinegar, and aloe vera. While most of these home remedies only target the outer layers of hyperpigmentation, they can still help lighten skin discolouration and even out the tone of skin. You should consult a dermatologist before trying any of these remedies as they may not have the desired effects. Chemical peels are another way to eliminate hyperpigmentation. Using a higher concentration of skin acids, these peels are effective in removing the topmost layer of skin and the damaged outer layers. Depending on the severity of the hyperpigmented skin, different chemical peels are recommended. Glycolic acid, a common home peel, is derived from sugarcane. Salicylic acid, lactic acid, phytic acid, and yellow peels are also common options for removing pigmentation. Skin trauma is another common cause of hyperpigmentation. A deep burn or cut may leave a dark patch. These scarring lesions are commonly found in darker skin and tend to be more prominent on women than men. A hormonal imbalance causes melasma to develop. Women with Mediterranean, Latin, and Middle Eastern ancestry are at the highest risk of developing hyperpigmentation. In addition to skin trauma, women tend to produce more melanin during pregnancy, which increases the amount of extra pigment in the skin. Microdermabrasion is an effective hyperpigmentation treatment. It is a noninvasive treatment that is safe for most skin types and requires little or no downtime. Typically, a series of treatments is required to eliminate hyperpigmentation. If microdermabrasion is not enough to eliminate hyperpigmentation, another modality may be necessary. In some cases, laser treatments or chemical peels can be added to a treatment regimen to enhance results.
